Have you ever heard about April Fool's Day? Well, so let me tell you about it. The first day of this month people traditionally play jokes or send each other impossible errands.
But, which is the origin of this celebration? No one is certain how the custom of fooling people began. It may have started with an ancient Roman festival honouring the Goddness Ceres.
Another version tells us that the holiday may have started as part of the celebrations of the spring equinox. Or April Fool's Day may have roots in the springtime Hindu fire festival of Holi. On the first day of Holi, unsuspecting people used to be on foolish errands.
Also, there are many people who think that April Fool's Day as we know it today, began in France during the reign of Charles the IX. ( French called "Poisson d'Avril"-April fish)
French, English and Scottish settlers brought the festivity to America.
Schoolchildren like this festivity, they do things as taping "Kick me" signs to their friends backs. Another prank involves tying a string to a wallet and then waiting for someone to pick it up. When the person bends over, the prankster pulls the string so that the wallet seems to run away from the unsuspecting person.
April Fool's day begins National Laugh Week, which is a time for comedians to tell plenty of jokes.
Well, I hope you've learnt some new facts about English way of life, if you know more about this festivity please write a message. May you have questions or doubts about other festivities just ask and I will try to help you
